Brother Knights,

At our last Council meeting, we approved a motion to donate $500 under the Orders Refund Vocations Support Program (RSVP) to Seminarian Chris Hess, who was coming to speak to the youth of St. Mary's regarding his vocation. He was assigned to speak at St. Mary's by the Diocesan Director of Vocations at our parish's request. Chris is a first year theology student (second year in the seminary) at St. Mary's Major Seminary in Baltimore, MD and is studying for the priesthood for the Richmond Diocese. He is from Virginia Beach and Ascension Parish and his father is a long-time Knight of Columbus and Past Grand Knight. Chris was an EMT before entering the seminary. Many of you probably got to hear him speak at our our weekend Masses on January 12 and 13. Chris has agreed to our sponsorship and support of his vocation. This will, of course, involve monetary support but will also include moral and spiritual support. As appropriate and when he is available, we plan to include him in Council activities, such as family day at the Ballpark. Maybe we'll even recruit him as a Knight, even if he ends up in a different Council. Most importantly, we can support Chris and his journey to the priesthood through our prayers, not just for him but also for all seminarians and priests and religious.

Fraternally, Jerry Shaw, Chancellor Vocations Director
